The Marleybone Laboratory

You reflect on how easy it was to knock out SkullBringer as you slip inside the private lab. He was a mordromancer, but not particularly combat adept. You can tell that he invests most of his time into dark concoctions in his lab…and does he ever have a lot of dark concoctions. Shelves from floor to ceiling are filled to the brim with beakers and tubes, frothing with potions every color imaginable.

“Over here!” A hissing voice throws you out of your wonder. You turn, and find an orange-clad figure shaking the bars on his cell. In fact, you’re surprised you didn’t notice him earlier, but who exactly is he? Still, you walk over to him.

“Right,” he says. “I guess Corwin DarkHammer’s going to show up soon, so if you’ll charge my lightning bolt, we could stand a fighting chance.”

“Oh!” You suddenly realize that you’re with Tristan BattleSpear. He’s not easily recognizable without his signature lightning bolt. “Right. Do you have any idea why any of this is going on?”

Tristan shrugs. “A little. After I was tricked into getting captured, I heard some conversation between SkullBringer and some other dark wizard. Apparently, other members of the White Legion are being captured all over the Spiral, but this isn’t just brutality for the sake of it. We’re all supposed to take part in some sick spell of his to help him gain power, so he wants us alive.” He turns to a lab station in the corner, on which a few bubbling beakers, some paper, and a strange wooden and metal cylinder rest. “How about my lightning bolt?”

You sigh and set to work. On the lab table is a note, full of terms that mean nothing to you. The only part you understand states that a certain mixture of the three different-colored liquids before you will recharge the bolt. It appears SkullBringer has started the process for you, since he probably wants to harness the power for his own purposes.

The three beakers are filled with red, green, and blue liquids. The red and green are filled to the same level, but it looks like about a third of the blue has already been poured into a fourth beaker, probably for mixing. As far as you can see, only the beaker filled with red liquid has markings; it’s filled up to the 12 oz. line, and the beaker has capacity for 16 oz. It appears to be the same size as each of the others. You turn back to the note, and after a moment’s hesitation, flip it over. To your delight, you see a series of numbers and letters:

a/2 + (3b/4 – 3) + c/3 = m

You suppose that red would be a, green would be b, and blue would be c…so if the red is filled to the 12 oz. line, what’s the magic mixture m?

(Find the number of ounces needed of each liquid to make the mixture. When you have all three, e-mail them in to sophiaeb at live dot com. If you’re first, you’ll win two hoard packs of choice. A meet-up will be arranged via e-mail.)
